I really love science-fiction and fantasy. My favourite book series are Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Divergent, Kane Chronicles, and The Maze Runner, which I have just recently finished per my brother's suggestion.

I wanted your opinion on something. As Carly grows older, she gets curvier in physique. I decided this should also include bust (but only when she gets to about about 17-18 years old). But big busts are usually a 'mary-sue' thing. I was thinking since Carly is a 'pear-shaped' girl, the bust could be a problem, giving her back pain at times and slowing her down. Do you think that's acceptable?
Yes. Having big boobs is not something to be ashamed of, and people shouldn't feel like they can't make a busty character. But like you said, if they are really big, it would most definitely give her back problems, and that should be addressed.
